How English (ELICOS) Courses Work in Australia
The ELICOS program (*English Language Intensive Courses for Overseas Students*) is the official Australian standard regulated by CRICOS and audited by ASQA, guaranteeing daily immersion and accelerated fluency development.
20h / Week
Mandatory face-to-face hours required by the 500 visa.
Weekly Start
New classes start every Monday throughout the year.
Work on Your Visa
Legal permission for 48h/fortnight and unlimited during breaks.
Accurate Placement
Written and oral test on day one for the exact class level.
English Level Progression (CEFR)
You don't need to know English before travelling. Students are assessed on arrival and move up a level every 10–12 weeks of study.
Elementary / Beginner
A1 - A2Everyday communication, essential vocabulary and core grammar structures.
Pre-Intermediate
A2+Early fluency development, listening comprehension and conversation on everyday topics.
Intermediate
B1Independent interaction at work and in Australian social life, debates and structured writing.
Upper-Intermediate
B2Advanced fluency, spontaneous argumentation and the level required for direct entry into vocational (VET) courses.
Advanced / EAP
C1 - C2Academic English for university (Higher Education), preparation for IELTS and Cambridge (FCE/CAE) exams.

Official Entry Requirements (Australian Government)
Mandatory documents and steps required by Australia's Department of Home Affairs to grant the Student Visa (Subclass 500).
Valid Passport
Valid for at least 6 months beyond your planned stay in Australia.
CoE (Confirmation of Enrolment)
Official enrolment confirmation issued by a CRICOS-registered institution.
Mandatory Health Insurance (OSHC)
International medical cover for the entire study visa period.
Financial Capacity & GS
Proof of funds to cover the course and the Genuine Student Requirement.
Requirements Summary:
- Passport valid for at least 6 months.
- No prior English level required (from absolute beginner to advanced levels).
- Enrolment at a CRICOS-registered school and issue of the Confirmation of Enrolment (CoE).
- Mandatory health insurance for international students (OSHC) covering the whole visa period.
- Application and grant of the Australian Student Visa (Subclass 500).
